We're going to parent-teacher conferences this morning at 11:20 am. I'm not worried about it. Mason's big problem now seems to be a penchant for interrupting the teacher (now, where would he get personality trait like that???) As far as I know, most of the rest of the issues have worked themselves out. We'll see what the teacher says.

It's snowing. I hate to admit it, but I like it. I'm actually pretty fond of winter, which is helpful given that I live in Minnesota. With any luck, this will be a "normal" year (ie., the way I remember them) and we'll have snow cover from Thanksgiving to March. Winters drag on me when it's cold and brown. Cold and white, I don't mind so much.

Anyway, since I was wrong about Wyrdsmiths being last night, I ended up wasting my writing time yesterday getting ready for that. The good news is that I read everything and commented ahead of time for once (no homework on the bus for me.) Today will probably be a wash in the writing department as Mason is home from school all day. However, our good friend Harry is coming over later in the afternoon to play LEGOs with us. I'm psyched. We have many, many, MANY LEGOs and Mason is going to challenge Harry to build "Cloud City" from "Empire Strikes Back")

The nice thing about LEGOs is that it's a toy that the whole family enjoys. Mason loves them, Shawn loves putting together the really complex ships, and I love trying make cool looking ships without instructions. Some weekends we all just huddle on the rug next to the semi-permanent pile we keep in the living room, and just parallel paly for hours on end.

The gap is closing between Franken and Coleman here in Minnesota. It's down to 200 something. According to a newshound friend of mine, recounts tend to favor Democrats (we're sloppy voters, apparently.) I'm going to keep my fingers crossed. It'd be nice to be fillibuster proof.

Now, if only Prop 8 had been defeated in California. I'm pretty upset about the whole thing, but I've been comforting myself with the fact that Obama is likely going to have the opportunity to appoint two Supreme Court justices. In the end, those appointments will do much towards progressive measures for the whole country. My heart goes out to all my California friends (and to those in all the other 30 states who have past anti-gay rights measures over the years). We shall overcome. Yes, we can.
