The End of the World
Oct. 4th, 2006 09:57 amOne of the coolest parts of being a published writer is getting the ocassional piece of fan mail. I've been very fortunate enough that so many of my readers are deeply cool people. For instance, Timothy Furnish, who is arguably THE expert in Muslim eschatology (particularly in regards to the Mahdi, the Muslim version [sort of] of the Second Coming) LOVED my book Fallen Host. He sent me a fan e-mail and we started corresponding.
Tim just let me know that he has started a new website called Mahdi Watch. It's a clearinghouse of news articles and the like following, well, the end of the world Muslim-style. I was surprised to read, for instance, that "Ayman al-Zawahiri last week is said to have referred to Pope Benedict XVI as al-Dajjal, "the Deceiver"--the Islamic equivalent of the Antichrist who, according to the Hadiths (traditions), will lead the forces of evil and battle both the Mahdi and Jesus before the end of time."
And here I thought all the kooky rapture ready types were on _our_ side....
