White LIight Needed, a Bit?

 Shawn is currently undergoing a routine procedure. She's at United right now getting an endoscopic ultrasound, which is one of the ways that doctors test for pancreatic cancer. Shawn is only getting this screening because she's a carrier of the breast cancer gene, BRC-1. BRC-1 is why she had a mastectomy decades ago, and now they have uncovered a link between people who have BRC-1 and pancreatic cancer. 

So, she's not really... hurt or ill? But this procedure is taking half a day. The internet says that the actual endoscopic ultrasound takes 30 minutes, but they had her arriving at the hospital at 8 am and didn't even expect to be starting the procedure until 10 am. But, that means she's either just finishing up now (at 10:46 am) or is still in the middle of it.

If you could spare a few thoughts (or white light or prayers or whatever) in her direction, I would appreciate it all the same. These things might be routine for the doctors, but they're always a bit scary for the rest of us.

Oh, well, nevermind, They just called and she's out. I'm going to head over there now and pick her up. Whoot!

Yes, and the results are good, as well, so that's done for another year + (every other year she'll do an MRI.)

Excellent. (-: I have family history of some cancers in lower places that are also worth keeping an eye out for (good so far, touch wood!).

They did, thanks! Shawn reported that the doc said he had not seen such a healthy pancreas in a long time. Hooray!

Ooof, screening tests are a good thing overall, but I often feel many medical professionals completely underestimate, almost comically underestimate, the profound stress that they engender. When a study does mention this stress, everybody who had some bad thing discovered rises up and screams at anybody who dares for one moment to mention that kind of thing. It's all very exhausting.

I'm glad Shawn is home with you again (by now, I assume) and am cheering for excellent results.

The results were indeed excellent, so that was worth it.

To your point, the other thing I think is comically underestimated by medical professionals is HOW MUCH things like this take out of a person. Shawn spent most of the rest of the day absolutely sacked out and exhausted. We ate lightly, too, because having a camera (even a small one) threaded down your throat hurts? So, we had a lot of soups yesterday.

Very fine, thank you! As I told Pamela above, she did sleep the entire rest of the day, but the results themselves were perfect. So, she passed with flying colors.

I left her for my D&D game, but by that time she was fully recovered and comfort re-watching Inspector Lewis.

The results could not have been better. The doc said he hadn't seen such a healthy pancreas in a long time.
