Things have happened since yesterday that have improved my sense of doom.

While I had one student drop, I have another who is talking to me privately about having me an invited speaker to an organization he runs. I also heard back from my boss, who generally enthused in my direction. I feel much more settled. So, I guess it all evens out in the wash, or something to that effect.

I've been fighting a headache all day, however, which I blame on the weather. It's been snowy here, on and off. On the other hand, I finished a short story--or at least a VERY rough first draft of one--in time to hand out to Wyrdsmiths.  I have some insanely good short story writing colleague who I am hoping will tear what I have apart and give me a blueprint on how to rebuild it. My deadline isn't until March, so I have a lot of time to play around with this. So, that's in the plus column.

I did a very little reading this week. I managed Komi Can't Communicate, Vol 1. which I am still ruminating on before I write a review. It's kind of cute? I like the idea of a bunch of people helping someone make friends. I'm not sure how I feel seeing Communication Disorder played so obviously for laughs, but I am reserving judgment until I get further along in the series.

Meanwhile, I think we could all use some cat pictures. Here's buttercup in his basket.

Glad to hear it. And he's such a good boy.

Oh, I'm glad you are feeling less doomish. Because it sounds to me as if you're a very good teacher who actually takes where her students are right now as a useful guide.

Buttercup! Yay! I love his profile. And I was just beginning to think, how nice to provide such a large boi with his own basket, when you said that -- of course -- he had co-opted the basket.

That sounds cool.

Identity literature tends to follow a very consistent path, and most folks can't figure out how to do a positive portrayal until after 20-30 years working through all the steps. Making fun of it is typically step two, after ignoring it. 0_o Me, I never have the patience for that, I just skip to the good part. Trait? Trait-having hero!

So cute.

I've been watching Abbott Elementary as a break from the ridiculously dark series' I somehow end up getting obsessed with. It's sweet and funny and if you haven't watched it you really should. The trials and tribulations of teaching in an inner city elementary school aren't quite the same as what you're experiencing but there's enough overlap that I think it will make you laugh. That principal ...
