It seems appropriate to follow up my post about baking, with another triumph of the wrench.

I successfully changed my license plates on the car!

Sounds easy, you're thinking, but the back plate was a b*tch to get off. Had to pull out the old liquid wrench. Had to try a number of different tools--all of which I HAD.

So, yep, that's it. I did a thing. Go me.

Yeah, I can't remember exactly, but somehow my newer nicer plate screws don't go on properly if I use the provided stand-off plastic things. All more of a pain than it ought to be.

Congrats.

Changing license plates is always harder than it should be. I don't understand why, but license plates are usually secured with BOLTS THAT RUST. WTF? Surely iron bolts can't be that much cheaper than aluminum ones? And even when the bolts surprise you by coming right off, you still end up squatting in the slush or kneeling on ice if you were foolish enough to buy a vehicle in the middle of winter. No fun.

Nylon bolts avoid all the issues with metal.

I’ve had to deal with changing a license plate before, and I agree: it’s much harder than it should be.
