Minicon starts today, although I won't be there until tomorrow. Great huge gobs of white, fluffy snow is falling here. I managed to coax Mason outside to play in it. We took our saucer sled to Como hill with the intention of sliding, but when Mason saw the woods... he changed his mind, so instead we tromped through the wilds of Como Park. The loveliness of it would be hard to describe, but the snow is wet, and so it clings to every surface -- even delicate fronds of swamp grass. As Mason said, "Wow, this is a real winter wonderland, isn't it?" "Well, it would be," I replied, "if it wasn't spring."

That's the only complaint you'll hear from me, however. I'm fond of the white stuff, even in March. A friend of mine from college, Nick Dykstra, said something about March that's stuck with me all these years. He said that March is half spring and half winter, the only problem with it is that which season it is any given day is entirely random. So you can have one day of spring followed by ten of winter. But, in the end, it all evens out. I think about that whenever I hear people complaining about the winter days. Spring will come.

Soon enough we'll all be complaining about the heat.
