I've been writing, I'm happy to report. The month of January (and probably the first few weeks of February) are officially RESURRECTION CODE month. The only other things I have to do are write a very short article (500 words) for a German magazine to promote the German publication of Tate's books over there, and try to remember how to set up Cute FTP so that it recognizes my website. (Both mine and Tate's websites are woefully outdated.) I may have to break down and call Doug [livejournal.com profile] swordsandpens and see if I can borrow his laptop cord (which fits my old one) for an hour or so, so I can see how I had it set up before.

Also, JUST for YOU, I've decided that what my prequel really needs is MORE SATAN!

Can I very quietly admit something? I'm having fun. Don't tell, or it will all start being work again, I'm sure. Also, this may be one of the sluttiest books I've ever written. But that's another story.

Anyway, I realized exactly how pathetic Shawn and I fail at being soccer moms yesterday. Mason had a homework assignment in which he was supposed to draw a picture of all our scheduled events in any given week (examples: piano lessons, language classes, sports...). The three of us stared at each other for a long moment. "Uh," I finally said, "on Thursdays I change the fish tanks." He drew a picture of fish in a tank under Thursday. We blinked and stared and pulled at our chins some more. "Can we leave it at that?" Mason asked. We thought probably not. Shawn finally said, "Maybe we should just make something up. Draw a picture of us reading." Mason rolled his eyes, "We do that every day." Eventually, we just came up with things that we do every day and put them on random days of the week. It was kind of pathetic. I imagine there are parents and kids who had trouble filling in all their scheduled events in the tiny space provided.

Today I'm in Edina, a place I often avoid out of principle. (Non Twin Cities people: think small naighborhood where the extremely rich live and shop. Seriously, a woman in a full length REAL fur coat just clicked by on high heels). But Shawn has a hairstylist here, and, we followed her to this place from one in Robbinsdale (which was much further away.) I'm at a Starbucks listening to the Edina moms complaining about thier dry skin, kids, and whatnot. After this, however, we're going to go out to lunch at the Ethiopian place near us and I'll take her back to work. I'm thinking I won't get much writing done today during the day, but, for this book, and my tight (okay, only tight because I blew the other ones) deadline I'm going to actually WRITE ON THE WEEKENDS. (I know, crazy talk.)

Yesterday I also skivved off a bit from work to have lunch at Bonnie's Cafe with my friend Cathy (of Amore Coffee,) which was also a blast. I tell you, if you want me to skip working all you really have to do is tempt me with good company and a fabulous resturant.

Also, I had to laugh. Mason has this time during school where they share various bits of their lives. On Monday, I coached him, "What are you going to say if you get a chance to share in class today?" As he's thinking, I prompt, "Are you going to tell them about all our sledding??" Oh sure, ima, I was promised, that'd be great... of course I will. So I ask him on Monday when I go to pick him up, "did you share about sledding today?" "No," he said, "I told them all [some obscure Pokemon DS Lite event.]" ARRRGGGGHHH! His teacher must think all he does is play video games.

Anyway, I hope you all are doing well. Happy 2010 (which, btw, is a total STARDATE.)

I love the combination of "Satan" and "slutty" under the same cover :)
