Knee Surgery

 Shawn's surgery is scheduled for today at 1:15 pm (we are supposed to be at the hospital at 11:15 am). Because of all of Shawn's various complications, we are opting to do this at United Hospital as overnight, rather than as day surgery. 

I'm hoping to be able to keep posting from time to time during her recovery, but if I disappear for a couple of weeks, know that I'm just busy being a PCA to my beloved wife.

I have been through knee replacement. I can offer encouragement, and advice if wanted. Mainly, she will need to do her PT exercises once they teach her what to do. There are many devices and aids to make things easier after the surgery. A raised toilet seat, a walker, some grabbers, and even a sock aid can be helpful. Hoping for an easy recovery and great results for Shawn.

Shawn is excellent at PT. So excellent, in fact, that she was rigorous with the PRE-surgery exercises, which helped her perform well today. The physical therapist was good and reminded us that the swelling and pain will make it seem as though some progress is lost, but that we should keep up with as much as we can.

We have all the equipment, fortunately. Shawn is a list-maker and a researcher, so we have the bath seat, the raised toliet seat and several other gadgets. Thank you for the offer, however!

Hoping it all goes smoothly and recovery goes quickly and easily. (I've been enjoying the first two books of AngeLink. Read the first one on the evening of Nov 5th. It was pretty surreal that night.)
