Johnny/Giant Girl

Quick fish update...

I'm worried Johnny/Giant Girl might be sick.  He's been hanging out at the bottom of his tank a lot more than usual. I know bettas do this, but it always freaks me out, so I tend to notice when he's been down there for longer or more often.  He seems also to have eaten our Malysian trumpet snail (you go, girl!), but I'm worried that, as it was somehow a stow-away from when that tank was sick, it may have infected/affected Johnny.  

Or he's bored.

Personally, my solution would be to get him a girlfriend.  I realize he might also eat her, but I thought if I could get one of those seperator tanks, maybe it might inspire him to make a bubble nest (something he's never even tried) and maybe generally perk him up.

No doubt that way leads disaster.

Try changing out his "furniture." I've heard (and subsequently learned) that bettas get bored easily, and they appreciate a change of scenery from time to time.

Maybe he's not feeling good, or maybe he's cold (I don't know if you have a heater or not), or maybe he's just lazy. But as long as he's eating, and if he's warm enough, I wouldn't worry about him too much.

He's got a heater, for sure. Good advice about moving furnature.

I wish I were a writer of speculative fiction, because there is something about the line "Personally, my solution would be to get him a girlfriend. I realize he might also eat her..." that, when lifted out of context, makes the mind go to very strange places.

I hope that, in context, the fish improves.

Get him a mirror. Don't leave it by the tank, but once and a while hold it up to the side of the tank so he can see himself. His little brain, the size of a pin, says, "A Male! Kill him!" and he'll flare up and look ever so beautiful. Then you can take the mirror away and he'll think he's tough because the wimpy male ran away.

Then you'll have to listen to his stories because boys are like that. "And this guy, came by and I was all, 'Hey, you want a piece of me?' and he was all, 'Bawk! Bawk! I'm a chicken!' and he swam away and I was all, 'Yeah, I didn't think so!'" And then he'll spit.

It'll perk him up, definitely.
