Feeling Like Myself Again!

 Even though I swore not to get my haircut until the pandemic was over, I realized that, after CONvergence, no small part of my sense of self is, in fact, wrapped up looking a certain way. By which I mean, just when you think you DON'T have body dysphoria, you suddenly realize you do, it's just more subtle than some people's. 

naomikritzer found me a nice trans positive barber and this person did me a solid. It is super hard to walk into a salon, as a woman, and say, "I want to look like a hot dyke" and be understood. Because this person cuts trans men's hair, this person got me.

I feel pretty! Oh so pretty! So, pretty, and buctch-ly, and MEEEE.

Sometimes I want to walk into my usual hair salon and say, "Make me look like a soft butch." I've never actually said that, but my undercut style usually does the trick.

You know what was funny? I asked about an undercut and my barber said, "Nah, too 90s," even as I was thinking, "But, but CAPTAIN MARVEL HAS ONE." So, yes, soft butch, hellooo!

I go to a queer salon and it's really nice. Last time I said "I want to get a 90s boy cut, but with curly hair" and Tea Cup totally got it, no arguing.

I almost said, "Make me look like a K-Pop boy band." but then I realized THAT MIGHT BE TOO FEMME FOR ME. :-)

I love queer salons. This is nice, however, because it's a trans positive BARBER shop, so you get the barber shop feel too if that's important to you? Like, I can take that or leave it, but I can see how a trans guy might really want the feeling of being in this kind of space. Anyway, I feel so, so much better.
