Shawn had her visit to the urologist today. I will give all the gory details under the cut, but the short answer is: all the problems may be a known side-effect of the blood thinner she is on.

We just got back from the urologist a few hours ago. We lucked out and got someone who listen to Shawn (which, as I said, is OFTEN the norm at our hospital?)  But the doctor, who apparently specializes in urology surgery, said--after doing all the tests: cystoscopy, pelvic and rectal exams--that he has seen other people who have had spontaneous, random bleeding as a side-effect of the blood thinner that she's on. So, right now, that's our best guess as to what happened.

The good news is that it really does seem RANDO.  The bad news is that there are still some numbers on blood tests that we are going to follow-up with with a kidney expert and Shawn is going to ask for a consult with a hematologist because one solution to "HOLY CRAP MY URINE IS FULL OF BLOOD" is potentially to cut back on her blood thinner's dosage. We will see what we can get in terms of appointment. But, at this point, since she seems to have settled down in terms of what she is peeing, everything seems a lot less urgent.

She is just emotionally exhausted right now? We spent last night just spacing out to the new season of one of our favorite British cop shows. "Line of Duty.

I spent today catching up on  A03 comments on my gigantic Bleach fic. I'd intended to use some of that momentum to do some work on my space opera, but maybe after dinner at this point... honestly, I wish there were more episodes to watch? I'm also kind of burned out.  I'm also mad at the book I"m currently reading, ROAD OUT OF WINTER... so that always puts me in a weird mood. (My anger is all about the kind of book I wanted, which this no longer seems to be. I had been looking for a quiet apocalypse survival story and we have literally veered into Mad Max territory and so I'm grumpy.)

What have you all been watching lately? Anything interesting?

I'm glad you guys got some answers and it's maybe fixable.

I'm currently bingewatching Kim's Convenience, which I should have watched a long time ago. I even saw the play during its first run! It's a sitcom about a Korean family that runs a convenience store in Toronto and that makes it sound not exciting but trust me, it's fucking hilarious and captures so much of what I love about this city.

When I googled Shawn's symptoms, the answer that seemed both likely and minimally scary was that anticoagulants can cause this, but there were so many other possibilities (some of them absolutely fucking terrifying) that (a) I'm really glad she got thoroughly checked out and (b) I'm really glad to hear that the expert thinks it's a side effect of anticoagulants.

Fingers crossed the hematologist thinks a lower dose of blood thinner will still do its job without creating new, panic-inducing horror show symptoms?
