Last night I was at a friend's house watching anime and I spent half of my time very distracted by sound of the wind. This friend lives in a house that's got a lake view and, at one point, a neighbor's chair rolled across the lawn and into the lake. It was kind of a howler! I did not enjoy driving home in it, and I'm not terribly happy to wake up to more of the same (minus the crazy wind, at least, however.)

The irony is that, normally, I'm super behind on gardening and so I am the one laughing at people who boldly plant their tender herbs and seedlings before Memorial Day. Because I got my act together this year? I'm the one staring balefully out at the flat, sad basil (which prefers heat), thinking, "Mmmm, maybe I should have waited??" and doing a lot of praying.

At my friend's house last night, we watched:

More of my friend's absolute favorite: Saiyuki (manga by: Kazuya Minekura).

Beautiful Bones: Sakurako's Investigation or A Corpse is Buried Under Sakurako's Feet, which is apparently based on a novel Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatte Iru by Ota Shiori. We only watched the first episode, so I have no real sense of the anime, but I may put it into rotation, if only because it is quite pretty. Despite the bones and the murder, it seems to have a very gentle feel (so far! Haven't made it past the critical episode 4) that reminds me of early Free! Iwatobi Swim Club which I used to watch to calm me down after Attack on Titan.

We watched a single episode of Chihaya Furu, about a card game called Ogura Hyakunin isshu, also just called, karuta, which, mysteriously, involves poetry--and matching the opening line to various things read by a reader.. The manga is by Suetsugu Yuki.

Then, we watched the first episode of an anime about the origin of the poems called: Chōyaku Hyakunin Isshu: Uta Koi (the manga by: Kei Sugita) which I liked the art style of a lot. but it's really just a series of shorts about the creation of various poems.... which is a hard sell for a lot of folks, probably including me.

We finished off the latest available episodes of Midnight Occult Civil Servants / Mayonaka no Occult Koumuin, *MY* new favorite, which I think I talked about extensively last Wednesday, but which is basically X-Files in Japan, with more paperwork.(manga by: Tamotsu Youko).

As for the reading I've done this week, I'm not sure I have anything particularly new to report. I read a lot of 'host club' related yaoi, including one that billed itself as "Dentist x Host!" (I mean, that's a turn on right there, am I right? Dentists! HOT!) So, mostly what I would normally call "trash" reading, though, I mean, to be fair, one of the reasons I started blogging about my manga reading over at MangaKast was that I wanted to give myself a sense that all my reading is legitimate reading.

The other thing I'm reading a lot of is a manuscript that the Loft based on to me. That's been a lot of fun. I very much love teaching via critique, so it's nice that the Loft has figured out a way for that work to be valued (aka I get paid for it.) Obviously, I can't talk about that book, though. All I will say is that I was VERY EXCITED by a reveal in chapter 3.

So, that's what I'm reading and watching. You?
