I've created a myspace for myself at:  http://www.myspace.com/lydamorehouse  Those of you who are into such things, feel free to check it out.

I'm going to probably do a seperate one for Tate, too.

Why?  Because of Catherine Lundoff.  At a panel at Diversicon she suggested that her sales improved 30% after making a myspace page.  Plus, now that the book's done what else have I got to do?  *kidding*

30%? Clearly I'm doing something wrong on my own MySpace page...

I look forward to hearing about how it's going. I find Myspace impenetrable, but I am having a lot of fun with Facebook.

I'll be interested to see how this works for you. The whole MySpace vs. Facebook debate aside (they tend to draw differing crowds, or so I've read), it is certainly possible to create a page for yourself on any number of community spaces out there. The question is, should you? I am wondering if it is worth keeping all of them (including blogs) up in the long run vs. using that time for other things (writing, family, life, etc.).

I'd also be interested to know if 1) other authors have seen similar sales jumps from getting on MySpace/Facebook; and 2) if there were other contributing factors to her increase in sales besides getting on MySpace (good reviews, more marketing support from the publisher, etc.). I'm wondering if she is the exception or the norm, and how strong the cause and effect is.

I admit I've thought about doing the same thing down the line, so I will happily let you be the guinea pig on this one. :)

I hope you don't mind - I just created an RSS feed on LJ of your MySpace blog. It's http://syndicated.livejournal.com/myspace_lydamor/.

? - When I syndicated it, I immediately got an entry. It included some book being on the Locus best seller list.

Actually, I said other authors that I'd met this year had told me their sales improved 30%. I started a MySpace page shortly after my recent book came out so I don't really have anything to compare it against (my first book came out before I discovered the joys of MS). Bryan and I have been doing a comparison study of sorts to see just how many 'friends' you need before it impacts sales - we're both thinking 200+. The writers I know who said that life was all shiney post Myspace tend to be in the 300+ range for 'friends.'
