Might Have Missed the Mark

On an impulse, I decided to dye my hair yesterday.  My normal hair color is probably best described as "mousey" or "dishwater brown."  It's a very non-descript color AT BEST.  Up until some time in high school, I actually had fairly blondish hair.  It was definitely in the color scheme of blond.  But, lately, my hair is just sort of "meh" on its own.

Plus, Anime Detour is coming up and, should it happen that I can go, I've discovered the joys of cosplaying.  My hair is currently cut very boyish so, I thought, "Heh, I can finally join the legions of Ichigo Kurosaki cosplayers (I'll probably the ONLY cross player!)"

So, I got the brightest orange dye kit that was still considered "natural" (because work has one of those "natural color" stipulations in its dress code for hair), hoping to come out looking passably like this:



Instead, I turned out looking more like this:



Agreed?



Yeah, I thought so.  *sighs*  I may have missed the mark a bit.  Also, my hair?  Not terribly orange.  Luckily, for Detour, I have a can of orange hairspray, so I can make it more obvious who I'm trying to be....  Though, you know, I'll pass for Ichigo just about as well as I passed as Renji....

Shawn is soooooooo lucky that I'm allergic to metal and piss-ass poor, our I would so have the back and arm tattoos RIGHT NOW.  :-)

So, yeah, my next job?  Building Zangetsu!

SO DID I!! OMG, so did I.

Also we have this fandom in common, too, don't we? Are you still reading it? Renji actually got a pretty awesome power-up recently that I'd be MORE THAN WILLING to talk your ear off about.... ;-)

No, I drifted off circa Hueco Mundo. (And then went to grad school and everything got put on hold for about three years.) But I'd love to hear about his power-up for old times' sake!

Ah, of course! Chad's friend. I should have recognized him immediately.

Hueco Mundo almost broke me, too, so I understand completely. In fact, I started writing fan fic about Renji because I was honestly quite gutted/disgruntled by how he'd become a comedic punching bag for that arc.

As for the current story arc and Renjis upgrade: in a nutshell, we're now fighting an army of (possibly undead) Quincy. Ishida, jr. seems to have sided with the "bad guys" (given what we know about Mayuri, his systematic torture of the Quincy, what's been revealed about Old Man Yama's part in their destruction/genocide, and the SS in general the jury is still out on whose side is actually right in this fight.)

After a horrible bloodbath in which it looked like Byakuya was DEAD, Renji has been off with Ichigo, Rukia, and Byakuya to the Soul Realm (where the Soul King lives) and learned from one of the Zero Squad that Zabimaru has been less than forthcoming in his/their True Name (capitalization mine). His bankai is not Hihio Zabimaru, but Souou Zabimaru and is much... smaller, more compact and more... attached, in that Renji has a kind of prehensile tail and a projectable baboon arm (like Komamura's bankai.)

I was hoping to be able to post a few pictures for you, but I don't think I can do that in here. But a simple google of "Souou Zabimaru" will get you all the pretty.

Also, and possibly FAR MORE IMPORTANT, Renji's hair is longer these days.

You know, if you managed to figure out how to do an Ichigo/Tintin cross-over cosplay that people could actually get on sight, that would be quite an achievement!

I think of you as blonde even with normal hair. Just blonde-for-grownups. However, my family is 50% Puerto Rican & 50% dark-haired French Canadian (& their American descendants). So not-black is pretty exciting & exotic for me.
