I May Have to Get a New LJ Icon: Wedding Bells

The Minnesota House voted to extend marriage equality to everyone yesterday. On Monday, the Senate is expected to weigh in, but, provided they have the votes (which many sources say they do), the governor has already promised to sign.

I... uh, could be getting married soon. *gulp*

I mean, YAY!

As I've talked about before, this is just one of those things I made peace with DECADES ago when I came out. Though one of the ways I always knew I was different from the other girls is that I never had the long, involved wedding fantasies they did. So, to suddenly be faced with -- do we get dresses? Rings? A Unitarian minister? Kind of throws me a little.

One thing I've always loved about weddings, though, is getting to dance. So I told Shawn that the one thing I absolutely MUST have at our wedding is a dance hall. I want to dance all night long and I want all our friends--as many who want to/can celebrate with us--to dance and dance and dance (but not until our feet burn up, just until we collapse with joy.)

So, I'll be watching Monday. Fingers crossed.

My sister Maggie's wife Cindy (I think you met when we took their kids to the pool a few years back) is an Anglican chaplain. Don't know if that makes her wedding-capable. Come to think of it, they were married in Canada several years ago. Wonder if they're gonna double-tie the knot in Minnesota...

teri is registered to perform weddings in MN, with no particular care about what kind of ceremony. She also she loves designing weddings, if you don't know where to start--seriously, tell her what feel you are going for and she'll make pintrest board after pintrest board for the different events you want. Of course you can! The more Shawn and I talk about this, the more it seems there will be some kind of ceremony. And, you know, even at the reception there'll be food and hanging out. I know a lot of geeks. I suspect there will be people to hang out in the corners and talk to! I'll probaby join you there!

I'm betting it is pretty easy to get a license to perform marriages in MN. Pick who you want to marry you two and ask them to get a license. Your dad, maybe?
