I have to rant here because I don't want to engage on someone else's FB status. Srsly? You want me to have sympathy for the rich because they might FINALLY be asked to pay their fair share? Do you EVEN KNOW what percentage tax *I* pay as a self-employed writer? 30% !! On about (this year) $8,000 (yes, a$$hole, that's my TOTAL yearly income.) And, you want me to feel sorry for some rich jerk who pulls in more than a MILLION dollars a year? Who might be asked to pay 10% of that? Let's see, 10% of a million vs. 30% on 8,000... which of us is suffering again?

I'm sorry, I can't hear your talking points over the sound of my head exploding.

...the difference being that Richie Rich, if told someone was poor, would give them a $1,000,000 diamond out of his pocket. These guys lock their money vaults and shoot the guards.

because they DESERVE to make more!

Seriously, that is what these arguments come down to. "But I need this money to maintain my lifestyle!" And you are entitled to this lifestyle why?

Rant On Rant On!

My sister shared this on Google+ and it made me smile:

"If a man has an apartment stacked to the ceiling with newspapers we call him crazy. If a woman has a trailer house full of cats we call her nuts. But when people pathologically hoard so much cash that they impoverish the entire nation, we put them on the cover of Fortune magazine and pretend that they are role models." - B. Lester

I saw the snippet of an interview that was going around the other day and was amazed: The guy being interviewed who claims to be suffering and in touch with the plight of the common person brings in 6.5 million dollars a year. The interviewer points out that people are unlikely to be sympathetic. He then explains that that's before all of his costs, and that after his costs he only actually takes home $650,000. Still no sympathy. Okay, but he also has to feed his family, and after feeding his family, he's only left with about $400,000 a year of discretionary money to do with as he pleases.

Lots of people were, and rightly so, appalled that only having $400,000 a year in 'play money' after all expenses could be considered hardship. However, the question I want to know is: What does his family eat that it costs $250,000 a year to feed them? Gold? Alaskan snow tiger testicles?

I wonder if people like that realize that for a huge number of people, the amount left over after all the bills and everything are paid is as close to $0 to make little difference, and in not a few cases it's a negative number.
