Shamless Plug for a Fellow Writer
Apr. 4th, 2006 03:08 pmMy friend Barth Anderson’s new novel THE PATRON SAINT OF PLAGUES is out from Bantam this month. This is a book I read in manuscript form, when Barth and I were both members of a Minneapolis/St. Paul area writers group known as Karma Weasels (named after one of Barth’s short stories, actually.)
Booklist said this: “In the near future, the city formerly known as Mexico City is the most populated in the world. Out of nowhere, a plague attacks without warning and quickly spreads across the city; unless it is stopped, it will spread across the world. An American virus expert, Henry David Stark, soon discovers that the disease is man-made. This is the first novel by Anderson, whose short fiction has garnered him some attention in the science-fiction community. The topic is timely (viruses and pandemics are hot), and the just-around-the-corner world is very well realized, full of smart extrapolations from today's technologies and social conventions.” (David Pitt)
You should buy a million copies. Barth is one of the good guys.
If you happen to live in the St. Paul/Mpls area, he’ll be reading and signing his new book on Friday April 7th at 6:30 pm. Check out: http://www.dreamhavenbooks.com/
