Policy and Plants
Jun. 15th, 2019 12:27 pm Mason survived his week as a paid camp counsellor assistant at the Science Museum's "Wizarding Camp." He must have done well enough, because on of the 'professors' there asked him if he ever does babysitting.
He also got himself a position through a program called EEL (Emerging Environmental Leaders) to be a high school member of the Minnesota Environmental Quality Board. My little policy wonk! I couldn't be more proud, especially as this is yet another thing that Shawn and I found out about after he'd applied and been accepted. His first meeting is next Tuesday evening.
Otherwise, I spent the morning with Shawn planning our route through Wisconsin for our big road trip. We are, as usual, taking all the side roads and will probably spend way more hours driving than is strictly necessary. On the other hand, we do plan to see the JFK urinal in Spooner, Wisconsin, so y'all can go ahead and die of jealousy RIGHT NOW.
Today is a dreary day. Our big plans for the evening include attending my nephew Jonathan's wedding. I'm both looking forward to it and dreading all of the associated wedding things, like weird food and having to jam myself into fancy clothing. They'd been hoping to do an outdoor, rooftop ceremony, weather permitting. Hopefully, the sun will come out this afternoon.
In the meantime, here are some pictures of my gardens.

The boulevard garden is often kind of a mess, but the blue irises looked lovely this year. The Russian sage is coming back, despite itself, as, it seems, is the lavender. I also allow the wild four o'clocks to grow in this garden because it's only a weed if it's not where you want it, I always say!
Our shade garden in the back is mostly hosta and ferns, but our gargoyle "Bill" watches over everything:

Our peony were also spectacular this year, probably thanks to the cool, wet weather (which is killing my sad, little basil plants.)

Hopefully, that cheers you up. I'm off to nap.
