Today is the day I traditionally stay home and do some of the work that needs doing around the homestead. It's fish tank day, and I've already switched the water on the small tank. I'm planning to do the big guys before I leave at 1:30 pm to do foldering at Mason's school. I lead SUCH an exciting and glamorous life, don't I?

Which reminds me... I've noticed a lot of the people whose blogs I usually check into don't seem to be updating as frequently. Are blogs going out of fashion? Or am I just late to this party like I usually am; I mean, what, with everying happing on Facebook and Twitter these days?

Can I just say, if that's the case, I'm going to be kind of bummed. It's not that I don't appreciate the snapshot of life that I can get on the other social media, but, like a good letter home, I find blogs a lot more enjoyable for their depth and rambling. It's all fake (or at least etheral) community, of course, but I prefer my fake community to pretend at intimacy better, damn it!

Maybe I'm just cranky because I seem to be the only one posting on Wyrdsmiths these days. Part of the problem, I imagine, is that we've sort of restricted the content of that blog to writing-related subjects (vaguely. We often go off topic, however. Witness Eleanor's lovely volcano and galaxy photos.) However, I suspect there's a little writing-chatter fatigue going on. Plus, Facebook and Twitter are the shiney. Especially for promotion of one's self as a writer, I imagine. If you're that sort, you can dash off a quickly clever line (less than however many characters) and you're done. I, meanwhile, stare at the screen and think... what is on my mind? What is on my mind? Oh, I know! NOTHING!

And yet, here I am, Sinefeld-style going on about nothing for paragraphs.

In other news, Mason has "reading camp" again today. I put this in quotes because Mason has complained that they do not, in fact, spend the entire day reading. I guess other six and seven year olds don't have the interest or the concentration to actually spend eight hours reading. Mason does. In fact, one day last year when we had the day off -- it was just about a year ago exactly, in fact, because it was parent teacher conference day. We'd had to take the bus because the car was in the shop -- at any rate, Mason declared that what he wanted to do was read all day. He read from 10 am straight through until bedtime, with breaks for food. Doesn't that sound like a dream? (It was a gift to Shawn and I too. We didn't have to entertain him at all. I got a lot done.)

I should quit before it becomes painfully obvious how dull and mundane I am. :-)

If I have time to write, it generally goes to the book right now. Not that I've ever been good about keeping it up the blog for quite a while now....
