Insurance, Doctors, Oh My!
Mar. 15th, 2010 01:23 pmAs you know, Bob, I'm chronically under-insured. Shawn can't cover me on her insurance because Tim Pawlenty is our governor (no, seriously, we *had* domestic partner health insurance, and he took it away.) So, I haven't really gone to a doctor regularly since I was laid off at MHS, and became a full-time parent/part-time writer.
There's this guy in Burnsville (
naomikritzer found him for me the day before a big article appeared in the Star Tribune about him) who takes cash, well, credit. He's like a real doctor, and anyway, I finally made an appointment for a physical. Other than the fact that I had to drive all the way to Burnsville, he was very nice. Although I had to laugh, at one point, we're going along on my medical history and he asks about how many people living in my house besides my child and... "roommate," and I say, "Doc, we've been together nearly twenty-five years, I think we're well beyond the 'roommate' stage. Try 'partner.'" He rolled with that okay, though I think I scare professionals, sometimes.
Anyway, my cough is nothing to worry about, and I'm generally healthy.
Over the weekend, I finished up the copy-edited manuscript for ALMOST (the copy-editor had a thing, this time, for dangling participles, which I had a lot of, I guess,) and wrote up a proposal for something darker in an adult title for Tate. Fingers crossed that something will happen with one of the many proposals I have in now.
I may actually need to start my next Tate young adult book now, since I'm quickly running up to deadline (July) and I got nada, ziltch. I don't even have the [fill-in title] template.
The temperatures were so nice that Mason and I headed off to the library on Sunday forgetting that our branch is now closed on Sundays. So I coaxed him several more blocks down to get an Izzy's icecream, and then we headed over to Mirrim Park playground. Everyone was out. It was really nice to see, and Mason and I had fun playing in the moist (but no longer frozen) sand and generally just sitting with the sun on our faces. A good weekend, honestly.
