Reading and Such

My plan is to read the Harry Potter books first (for all those who warned me), so no worries. Our tendency with Mason is just to leave books around of all sorts of age-appropriate/not-appropriate-ness, and letting him self-regulate to some degree. Obviously, we try not to be totally boneheaded about this, but, even though it scared him, I'm really proud of Mason for having tried and failed at the STAR WARS books. As I told him, they'll be there for him when he is ready and it's good for him to know his own limits.
Scary and Mason is a funny thing. The chapter books he's been loving (the Magic Treehouse), has all sorts of really intense situations that I'd classify as scary, myself, but they faze Mason a little less because he's learned the formula: Jack and/or Annie and/or Morgan LeFey always gets them out of trouble. Plus, he knows he can check the last chapter if he's really, really worried.
The problem with Jedi Search by KJA is that it's the first in the series and the ending has Luke Skywalker in the middle of a cliffhanger, literally knocked out and the monster/bad guys are the victors. NOT exactly a comforting ending. And, it's a big, grown-up size book. I think the idea of reading 300 pages just to get to a scarier ending really freaked Mason out.
But, yes, I agree with what people posted about Harry Potter. We'll get to them. I think they're good to have around for when he's ready though (and, frankly, *I* want to read them finally.)
As for the rest of my life, I had another spooky thing happen with my writing, which, if you like, you can read about on my Tate blog.
Oh, and I wrote over 1,000 words yesterday, but am skipping working out right now so I can get an earlier start and get even more done today.
So, on that note, got to go!
