So I'm writing along and I've gotten to that point (today is a "Tate" day) when I need to write a sex scene....

Sex is one of those things I find very hard to write. I could never be an erotica writer. I think it's because writing, for me, is a very vunerable act in general. Even when I'm writing things that could easily be considered "fluff," there's a lot of me -- my soul -- that goes onto the page. Writing sex scenes feel like doing my private boogie in public, you know? And with that comes all the performance anxiety I might suffer TIMES TWENTY.

Plus, I worry that I'm just not that interesting in bed... at least, so that a large audience might enjoy the show.

Ugh.

Wish me luck

This is my fan fic journal, where I've learned to write sex scenes. I have come to the conclusion that sex scenes aren't about what you do in bed. They are about what you think other people want to have done to them in bed...either your readers, if you are really shameless, or your characters, if you are a good writer.

People who write fan fiction are for the most part, shameless (in the way that I said above. Probably not so much in bed or anything like that.)

I don't mind writing sex scenes if they are bad-sex scenes, the kind that forward the plot and reveal what's wrong with a relationship, but you're trying to write romance sex scenes, like ooey gooey ever so fun. That I could never write. Good luck Tate!

If it helps to know, I write some erotica and sex scene are still hard for me to write. I find myself plotting them out in a detached way, like a fight scene. I've heard many complements on the sex scenes I do, so it must work, but there's some dread going into working on a sex scene, no doubt. The rest of the book darn near writes itself half the time, but sex and voilence, that's some hard work.
