I got back into the habit of reading over the weekend, and I've, perhaps foolishly, decided to start another of the many books on my "to be read" pile. This book is also another one I picked up at a rather successful jaunt to HalfPrice books (our favorite is the one in St. Louis Park). It's called MUHAMMAD: A BIOGRAPHY OF THE PROPHET by Karen Armstrong. I'm only thirty or so pages into the first chapter, entitled "Muhammad, the Enemy" which enumerates all the crazy, insulting things Westerners believe or have ever believed erronously about the Prophet. It's written in a very popular style, but, so far at least, it's not exactly a gripping narrative (not like, say, the Hell book I just finished.)

I may give up on it and go back to fiction. Although I tend to do a lot of reading when there are other adults around to watch over Mason, so I might get some done this upcomming weekend as well, since we're off to my parent's for Labor Day.

Thanks to the Republican National Convention which will be taking place in my fine, fair, and deeply BLUE city, Shawn and I think it's an excellent time to be out of town. We traditionally go to LaCrosse over Labor Day to see the truly awesome Labor Day parade (no sacrasm here. I think the LaCrosse's northside parade is actually really cool. Actual labor unions go on parade. There are flags and police officer's unions and postal carrier's unions and electrian's unions, floats and, much to the delight of Mason, tossed candy by the hoards.) Saint Paul has also decided to delay the beginning of school for Kindergardeners (only) until after the convention ends. We go back to school September 8.

Anyway, I'll write more later, as I must to go pick up Shawn from work now. See ya!

I'm back to school right after labor day. Yes, and what's up with have the republican convention here? Minneapolis is a one party town, and if it weren't for what's his name, Norm, the same could be said for St. Paul. Did you see the Chino Latino billboard. Delegates, come try our Capitalist Pig Roast. ??? Is that a promise or a threat?

Happy reading.

Norm was a Democrat when St. Paul elected him. St. Paul is a one-party town, too.

Luckily for the Republicans, Minnesotans tend to be pretty polite.

Ah, but we aren't 100% polite. The Republicans would have thought twice if they'd heard the crowds reaction at Irish Fair when Dave King of Flogging Molly said "Speaking of @$$holes, sorry to hear about your convention."

I'm at the Half Price in St. Louis Park weekly. It's just down the road from my place. The new ones in Crystal and Roseville are nice. I thought sure you'd be heading down to the convention! :P

I'm an ex-bookseller looking for my next bookselling fix. What do you think it would be like to work at that Half Price? I have a friend that left my ex-bookstore about a year ago to work for the Crystal Half Price. He got an instant raise, and something really rare for us chain booksellers, regular breaks.

Cool! It says a lot if she went back. They fired the manager that was my main reason for leaving my bookstore, but it isn't really doing well right now so I'd rather go some place healthier, even if another location in the chain. & I'm a DJHD, Double-job, hungry dog, so my standards for job 2 is pretty low too.

It's a well run store and I've seen some faces from the St. Louis Park store end up at some of the newer branches. I think you'd like working there. It would really be a good part time gig for me, but I get my bookselling fix at Uncle Hugo's.

Thanks! I'll have to think about Half Price seriously. I love Uncle Hugo's too, but could never work there. Last time I visited, one of my friends almost chased me out the door because I started trying to fix their newish hardcover area. They had books piled sideways on 2/3rds full shelves. Sloppy! I can't wait for Elizabeth to start because she'll shape them up.
