Date: 2025-05-22 05:28 pm (UTC)to my everlasting shame, i get amish people mixed up with mennonites, so i can't recall which sect ran the cheese factory that was the obligatory field trip if you grew up in cleveland, ohio, when i did. i think the amish ran the cheese factory and it is mennonites with whom i have sung at shapenote singings in ohio and indiana.
your story about the motel means the world has changed at least a little. michele and i had a proprietor absolutely refuse to let us have a room with only one bed when we were on a vacation, once--she insisted we take two rooms though at least she only charged us for one. that same trip, we got the "are you sure you want only one bed" question but when we said yes, it was okay, but that was in toronto. that was in 1985, so one would hope things had moved along at least a bit.
