As if I needed more work to do, I'm currently trying to talk my writers' group into doing a short podcast every time we meet.  Personally, I think it would be a hoot, although I'm sure it would end up being a bit of work.  I've totally volunteered to b e the worker bee for this one, but I suspect the writers are being a bit shy.  I had such a blast doing the podcast with Shaun over at Adventures in SF Publishing that I thought it'd be fun to do our/my own radio show.  Plus, it's one less piece of content I have to think up on my own for the blog.  I heard from one of you... but do people listen to these?  Personally, I think they're kind of neat, especially now that I'm wireless and it doesn't take all day for anything to download.  Anybody doing these that has advice/warnings?  I'm currently going through a podcast how-to tutorial that I found on the web and everything seems pretty straight forward, but, of course, other than being a guest, I really know jack about how these things run.

Oh, yeah, and I switched the fish.  Joe and Fergus are now in the big tank and Bob (new Bob) is now in the old 10 gallon tank.  Oh, yes, that means the ruined St. Peter's bascillica arrived.  Yes, it's very odd to have the destroyed Vatican in my fish tank.  Bob and Fergus have never been zippier.  My only concern is that there's a strong odor near their tank.  I just changed the filters hoping that will help, but it might just that on this hot day the fish water is evaporating.

And the revisions are still going. I'm not sure I've ever worked this hard on revisions before in my life.

Actually, I listened to your podcast with SF Publishing yesterday and really enjoyed it. Having a podcast for your writer's group would be fun, I think, both for you guys and for people like me who'd love to hear what goes on during your sessions.

As it happens, I've been trying to figure out podcasting myself, as I have an idea I'd like to at least attempt to pursue. I haven't gotten to any of the XML, hosting, tagging stuff yet which, for me, will be the hardest part. But for now, one thing at a time, right? Just get a couple shows recorded and then use them to work out the hosting/coding bugs.

I can recommend a couple of the 'podcasts about podcasts' from iTunes, as I've been listening to them myself. There are several, actually. Podcasting for Dummies, Podcast411, Learn to Podcast, Podgrunt and several others. If your group finally caves in to your creative badgering, those podcasts might be helpful to you for creating your own. Podcasting for Dummies has its first three shows dedicated to 1.) Creating Podcasts Economically (creating them with things you've already got or can get for free), 2.) Creating Podcasts with an Investment (or, in other words, spending more money on higher end equipment/sofware), and 3.) Podcasting on the Go (using a portable device to podcast anywhere).

So those are helpful if you want to know anything about the recordng end: hardware and software and whatnot.

Good luck with it! I hope you can convince them. :)

a good podcast might take more time to edit and create than you expect. just browsing for creative commons-licensed sound effects and music alone could take hours! that could cut into your time for other things. but on the other hand, it could publicize your work. I for one now know that you have a book coming out in Spring '08 because of yesterday's podcast.
