I quite liked the Merchant Princes series until about book 4, when they went nuclear, so haven't read the rest. Bounced hard off of Singularity Sky and Accelerando. Read Rapture of the Nerds but found it unsatisfying, likewise Saturn's Children. I guess I'd recommend the Laundry Files series--James Bond meets Lovecraft, with expense vouchers--or, for a shorter commitment, Rule 34 and its sequel, Halting State.
