Whelp, That Sucks
Mar. 8th, 2022 06:53 pmOn Sunday, after coming back in from shoveling the front walk, I was WhatsApping with my son about things. I decided it would be lovely to snap a picture of the snow fall for him to show off to his East Coast friends, and I stepped out onto our very top concrete stairs in my house shoes and slipped and fell on the ice. Thinking of
pegkerr and my other writer friend Kelly B. who recently got concussions this same way, I protected my head at all cost.
The cost was my back.
I was in so much pain on Monday that I was convinced to go to Urgent Care. I took a urine test to make sure there was no kidney damage (the way I fell against the concrete was basically a kidney punch) and they did three x-rays. The good news is it's just a really awful sprain. I ripped the fuck out of one of my precious back muscles. Recovery is slow in coming, especially when I am used to bouncing back from things.
I am, as I have been telling friends, unaccustomed to taking damage.
Normally, I fall, I am moderately sore, and done in a couple of days. This... this is shooting pains if I step the wrong way or forget and twist and it's making me shuffle around the house like an old lady, which I guess I am, but OLDER... WAY older.
Boo.
But, there's nothing for it but rest, ice/heat, and stretching exercises.
I've been continuing to enjoy the HeyGo tours of the beginnings of cherry blossom season in Japan, and I will probably show off my complication of postcards and such tomorrow.
