Fishy Upate and a New Writing Goal
Jan. 12th, 2007 11:58 amGill (Bob replacement) died today. He had a hard row to hoe, however. We’d decided to isolate him in our five gallon hospital tank because of a cotton-like fungal growth on his fin. However, previous to Gill the only thing that had occupied that tank were some plants and several snails. It was not “conditioned” (meaning, the nitrogen cycle was not established – there was no beneficial bacterial growth.)
In other words, Gill was pretty much doomed from the start.
Still, my hope for his recovery lingered during what Shawn and I called his “zippy fish” phase. He seemed to really like being the only fish in the hospital tank for a while, but my guess is that he just couldn’t really take the double whammy of having to be the first fish in a new tank and being sick to start with.
Of course, trouble always seems to come to our house in twos. Fergus (the Nemo, the Fredia replacement) now has a red spot (ulcer?) by his right pectoral fin.
*sigh*
In the good news department, I have about thirty dollars in credit at A World of Fish (I bought a penguin aerator that I decided was too big for our hospital tank). Seems to me, that at a dollar a pop, that’s thirty fish.
As for writing news, Shawn has now decreed that I don’t get to watch any more TV until I write 9,000 words. When I do we get watch one more episode of Lost and the BSG current season!!) that Naomi leant me. This has turned out to be a fantastic motivator. Despite having Wyrdsmiths last night, I ended up writing nearly 500 words (Wyrdsmiths nights usually equal zero actual writing. We go late, and as I noted in the comments re: reading, my writing time is after 8:00 pm, once Mason is asleep.)
P.S. I’m wireless from Adventure Peak in Edina, MN. Mason is running around in a three story McDonald’s adventure-land style gym.
