Unexpected things that helped me while recovering:

Baskets that I could carry over one arm while using a cane to get up the stairs (allowing me to carry more than 1 item).
A bar stool in the kitchen, so I could sit while doing meal prep etc. (using a normal step-stool to rest my feet on).
Way more saran wrap than you think you need! It's necessary for covering bandages to shower after surgery.
You mention you don't have a couch--enough firm pillows to stack up 1.5-2 feet to be able to ice and elevate above heart level is critical! And one softer "knee pillow" just to allow the knee to bend more comfortably while laying down to help with pain relief--fully straight can be painful.

Oh, and bonus, make sure slip-on shoes that don't require socks are available if Shawn doesn't already have them!

A yoga mat is also nice for doing post-surgical physical therapy.
