I understand there is some variation in instant run-off voting, but I thought it was all pretty much the same. Other than complexity (of both ballots and teaching people how to use said ballots), it seems like the main complaint is that the person/book/movie/thing that had the most initial votes might not end up winning.
As for the Hugos, I didn't do my reading, so I didn't vote. I still enjoyed watching the awards. Although, as much as I have enjoyed Charlie Jane Ander's work, I think she needed another run-through of the script.
