You could watch some of the other, later Goji films (you can also get the original Gojira without Raymond Burr, although the Japanese actually liked Raymond Burr). The ones that followed the original tended to become campier and campier, until the reboot in 1985. Gojira Tai Biollante is one of the closest in spirit to the original, as is -- predictably -- Gojira Tai Destoroyah, which derives its plot from elements of the original.

Of the later stand-alones, my favorite is Gojira Tai Megaguirus, which features the coolest weapon ever shown on screen as well as an excellent new soundscore for Gojira-Sama and one of the most badass female characters ever, bar none.
