First of all, just to be clear, I absolutely did not write this with the intention of shaming you or any other Clarion teacher. I totally get feeling a bit called out by the initial Twitter post, however--Like, I would too, if I'd ever taught at Clarion. I actually agree with you that I have NO IDEA how I would walk into the third week of Clarion and have any idea how to pick-up critique other than to do exactly what you did. I wonder (and neither of us knows since I have never been a Clarion student, and it sounds like you never were either) if it wouldn't behoove Clarion to have a strong week one instructor who could invest in some of the "how-to"s of critique and expectations, etc. But how would you know that?
Did the Clarion teachers never communicate? No Slack or Discord? I suppose a lot of this was before such things, but, man, you'd think a listserv or email chain might have helped a bit.
I've heard really good things about Viable Paradise which is why I was wondering about your experience with it. (Also, full on relate to LOOK! ADULTS! I remember what that was like when Mason was little.)
