Date: 2018-03-07 02:23 pm (UTC)You're perfectly suited for cons with that set-up (especially with even mild extroversion). I always feel badly when I poop out at 9 or 10 pm (and that's me pushing to stay late), because I know there's a whole con that happens after midnight, as it were. I should learn your trick of siesta.
And, yeah, jealousy. It's something a lot of writers struggle with, but often won't talk about. My writer's group deals with "internal" jealousy by making our members "pay" for success. If you sell a novel or short story or foreign rights (or really anything) or win an award, like say the Hugo or the Newberry, (which we actually have BOTH current winners in our ranks), you have to buy everyone coffee. Coffee isn't too punitive, but it's usually a nice opportunity for everyone to buy the most expensive drink to "stick it" to their more successful colleague, and for all of us to acknowledge that, yeah, we're happy for you, but damn we wish it were us, too.
I have to say my writers group has had some moments of toxicity, but we're actually fairly high functioning and supportive currently. I very much credit this kind of up-front practice regarding writerly feelings.
